Lille of France who were heavily linked with a loan move for Chelsea Nigeria defender Kenneth Omeruo appear to have jettison the idea as they yesterday confirmed the signing of Argentine centre back Renato Civelli.
The club of Nigeria's captain Vincent Enyeama were in need of defensive cover following the departure of Simon Kjaer to Fenerbache of Turkey and the 31 year old Civelli was thought to be in consideration alongside Omeruo by new manager Herve Renard.
However yesterday the club announced the free signing of Argentina's Civelli who last turned out for Bursaspor in Turkey.
Civelli, formerly of Nice and Marseille appears to be the team's preferred option ahead of the Nigeria centre back who might still leave Chelsea on loan this season after an unsuccessful loan spell with Middlesborough last season in the English Championship.
In a chat with Mowizsoccer shortly before Nigeria defeated Chad 2-0 in an AFCON 2017 qualifier against Chad, Omeruo said his future with Chelsea will be clear before the start of the team's pre season.
